Historical Manager Profile Notes

Creating managers is a difficult process. In addition to combining data from several sources there are times when it becomes necessary to focus on a part of a managers overall career rather than its totality. This is especially true of managers who had great longevity or whose career spanned different eras for which he adjusted his style. Following are some short comments on these managers.

John McGraw - This profile is for the years 1908-1920 when he was managing the New York Giants.
Leo Durocher - This profile is for the 1940's and 1950's when he was managing the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Giants.
Walter Alston - This profile is for the early 1960's.
Connie Mack - This profile is for the late 1920's and early 1930's.
Joe McCarthy - This profile is for the mid 1930's to very early 1940's.
Billy Martin - This is a career profile which does not address specifically the "Billy Ball" years with the Oakland Athletics.
Rube Foster - The profile reflects the time period 1911 - 1920 when he was manager of the Chicago American Giants.
Miller Huggins - Profile is for his years as Yankees manager.
Joe Torre - Profile is for his years as Yankees manager.
